This was my 2nd purchase of this product, this time as a gift to my Dad. He preferred this to the window-stick-attacher for the Garmin and we have used it for long and short car rides, traffic, bumpy roads, hills, you name it and it’s the most reliable, comfortable and easily used friction mount out there. Highly recommend it. We hide it just under our seats when we park and drop the Garmin a corner to make it invisibile to the passing eye.

I’ve used it for a few runs on a parkway with trees and have only been able to get the GPS to work once. Standing the SAME spot two days in a row, and it found satelites after about 5 minutes one day and not at all the second. I haven’t been able to get the heart rate monitor working either, even after changing the battery and making sure the straps are wet. When I did get it working for one of the three runs, I did like the usability and the display. However, it’s pretty much a paperweight if you can’t get the GPS working. It’s great if you run out in the barren plains but forget about nice Midwestern runs along lakes. Buyer beware!

I do like this product as it has many “bells and whistles”(which I’m still learning). I also appreciate that by buying through Amazon I will be able to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2010 later this year at no additional charge. The only drawback so far is that several people to whom I send e-mail can’t open the contents because their older model computers don’t have the capability to open it. They also aren’t comfortable enough with their computer skills to know how to go online to download the programs to help open it.

If you need to connect a Mini Displayport computer to an HDMI Display, this is your device. Just be aware that you may have some configuration to do on both sides.

In my initial review I called this product a disappointment because I could not get a good signal from my computer to the HDMI port of my Samsung 2333HD Display. I was careful in my original text to say I didn’t know where the blame lay. It turns out that not assigning blame was prudent and I should have done a little more digging on Google. Thankfully the fault was a somewhat hidden, misconfigured setting on the Samsung.

It seems that the Samsung expects a TV driving the HDMI input. What I didn’t know is that TVs and video devices drive HDMI displays differently than PCs do. TVs use a different colormap than PCs and TVs employ something called “Overscan”. What’s unexpected, and undocumented by Samsung, is the configuration steps needed to switch one if their HDMI inputs from TV/Video color mapping to PC mapping. As it happens, the way to do this is to label the Samsung’s HDMI input “PC” via the configuration menus on the Display. If you do this you get a great Digital PC display! That Samsung decided to bury the switch in the “input label” functionality is not expected and that sin is further compounded by their lack of documentation on the subject. But, that’s Samsung’s issue and not the fault of this adapter. The overscan issue is something that in the Mac’s Display Preferences panel under options.
