Happy on Rave It Intro Drop

I agree with the African American reviewer who was offended by this book because of the dialect choices by the author among other things. This book takes great potentially very interesting subject matter and turns it into a soap opera cartoon that eventually just falls flat and never gets up. No cliche is left unexplored, no stereotype unused. There is no subtlety in the character development at all. And having said that I could have accepted the work and enjoyed it for what it was if it hadn’t been for the “Minnie’s pie” plot point. I’ll not go into detail but I will say that as a food person I recognized a character in Minnie that liked to feed people and took a lot of pride in her cooking. At one point she even says that cooking is just about all she has to be really proud of. A person like that does not do what she did to Hilly with her pie. That device was just wrong, offensive and disgusting. I will look for other material on this subject, source material, because it is a good topic, too bad it was ruined in this book.
