UN personnel policy
The Charter of the United Nations proclaims the principle of gender equality in admission to the Organization. The General Assembly made clear guidelines aimed at encouraging the recruitment of women in the Professional category to address one of the main objectives of the Organization’s personnel policy, which is to achieve a more equitable quantitative ratio between men and women working in the Secretariat.
The United Nations also welcomes the increased participation of women experts and women consultants in its technical cooperation programs.
Since employees hired after January 1990 are required to retire upon reaching 62 years, the United Nations is committed to not recruiting people who have reached this age or are close to it. However, this does not apply to experts and consultants working under technical cooperation programs.
